If you’re having problems where one room in your home feels warmer than the others, there are a number of possible issues that could be the cause of this problem. From simple to serious fixes, let’s take a look at the most common reasons for uneven cooling and what you need to do to fix the problem.
Reasons One Room is Warmer Than Others
- A register has been blocked. Have you recently moved furniture around in that room or otherwise inadvertently blocked the register? This is the most common cause of uneven cooling. You should also check whether the damper for the register is open or closed, as that can be another source of uneven cooling.
- Your HVAC air filter needs to be replaced. If your HVAC air filter hasn’t been changed on a regular basis, it can become clogged and makes the entire system run less efficiently. If you don’t have the time to change the filter yourself, you can always look into our planned maintenance services to make sure your system is properly maintained.
- Your air return vents are dirty. If you have a lot of dust or debris blocking your air return vents, the system can’t effectively circulate the cold air. If a room has blocked return ducts, the old, warmer air can’t leave the room to make space for fresh, cool air.
- There’s a problem with the ducts. If you’re still not getting results, there’s a chance something could be wrong with your ductwork. A section of ductwork could have become disconnected from the vents or have a blockage. Though you can perform a limited inspection, a professional has the equipment needed to properly inspect the ductwork and ensure it’s operating properly.
- Your HVAC unit is not properly sized to your needs. This is typically a problem with either a new unit or one that is beginning to fail. An incorrectly sized new unit may not have enough power to cool your entire home while a failing unit can no longer keep up with the task. Again, this is a point where calling in a professional is strongly advised.
