History
Not surprisingly, Palm Harbor’s history is closely linked to the histories of its larger neighbors to the south. Pioneers first started settling the area in earnest in the 1860s. The settlement had several different names through the years. For a while, it was called Sutherland, which was derived from the Southern Land and Development Company. The first post office was established in 1878, and the railroad came through 10 years later. The town’s name was officially changed to Palm Harbor in 1925. Since then, its population has grown slowly but steadily. Today, the economy of the city revolves around the service, retail, construction and financial industries.
Geography
Palm Harbor is located on 26.6 square miles of land that are situated directly on the Gulf of Mexico. Its hilly terrain makes it unique in the state of Florida, which is mostly flat. The hills give the town a very scenic ambiance.

As of the 2010 U.S. Census, the population of Palm Harbor was 57,439. Of that number, nearly 96 percent of residents are white, about 3.5 percent are Hispanic or Latino and just under one percent are African-American.
